Who Moved My Cheese

Table of Contents Book Summary Lessons Learnt Conclusion Work Cited Change is inevitable and Spencer Johnson knew this very well when he wrote Who Moved My Cheese. This short dramatic story addresses change in life exploring how one could handle it, in work place and in day-to-day life as well. Positive change comes when one is able to sense, expect, and adapt to it by responding appropriately through action. After executing all these measures, change becomes enjoyable and life more interesting, with better results in work and in life.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Who Moved My Cheese specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Of all other things in life, change is the only constant thing and by learning to adapt to and enjoy it, life stops being a puzzle and becomes one enjoyable adventure. With full knowledge of these facts about change, Spencer wrote Who Moved My Cheese from personal experience to help others acce pt and adopt change in life. Laying down strategies in handling change is of essence in this book. Book Summary The book opens by stating the four major characters, Scurry and Sniff, the two mice and Haw and Hem, the two little people. â€Å"Sniff†¦sniffs out change early, Scurry†¦scurries into action, Hem†¦denies and resists change as he fears it will lead to something worse, Haw†¦learns to adapt in time when he sees changing can lead to something better!† (Spencer 1). Into the plot, Spencer adds a maze, which represents the work place or the place where people look for the things they desire and a cheese; a metaphor for the things that people look for in life like food, health, wealth among others. Having put this in place, the story starts. The two mice and the two little people live in a maze where, every morning they run to Cheese Station C and get enough cheese for everyone’s needs. With time, self-satisfaction sets in and Hem and Haw start ta king their cheese for granted. Fortunately, Sniff and Scurry are ever serious with their cheese and they keep on investigating its source to see whether the supply is diminishing. One day, these characters run to Cheese Station C only to find the cheese is gone. Scurry and Sniff, being little creatures void of intelligence and reasoning, are not surprised by the absence of the cheese. They look for another cheese somewhere else in the maze. However, Hem and Haw employ their intelligence to determine who might have moved their cheese. They cannot accept the cheese is gone so they end up wasting many days staring at empty Cheese Station C. in other words, the two little people with their intelligence cannot accept and adopt to change easily, while the two mice notice the change, adapt to it and moved on to find new cheese.Advertising Looking for essay on american literature? However, he finds the idea of leaving Cheese Station C tempting, especially after listening to rather negative Hem, who sees it risky to leave Cheese Station C. Consequently, Haw decides to join Hem in staying at Station C wishing and waiting for a miraculous reappearance of their lost cheese. Finally, Haw gets the idea that, if they do not do something, they will perish; therefore, he decides to move in search of a new cheese. For sometime, he feels lost but after many days of persistence, he starts feeling better about his exploits even though he has not gotten new cheese yet. He is convinced that, imagining that he has a new cheese will lead him to one and this is exactly what happens; he finds a new cheese station, which is almost empty. Despite this misfortune, Haw learns a lesson. Staying for long at Cheese Station C causes Haw to miss the next cheese supply. He concludes, â€Å"The q uick you let go of old cheese, the sooner you find new cheese† (Spencer 17). From a loving heart, Haw goes back to Cheese Station C with some new cheese to replenish Hem. Unfortunately, Hem is still in denial and he refuses Haw’s offer of a new cheese; he maintains that he wants his cheese back. Hem maintains, â€Å"I want my own Cheese back and I’m not going to change until I get what I want† (Spencer 17). After realizing, he cannot persuade Hem to leave Station C and search for new cheese, Haw leaves and continues his search for new cheese supplies. In his adventures, Haw realizes change is not bad after all; consequently, he adopts the motto, â€Å"when you change what you believe, you change what you do† (Spencer 18). Therefore, to start with, Haw changes the way he believes and writes on a rock, â€Å"Old beliefs, do not lead you to new cheese† (Spencer 18). Within no time, Haw realizes his new thinking pattern is producing new useful be haviors. Importantly, he notes he no longer goes back to any of the stations without cheese; instead, he searches through the maze to find new cheese-loaded stations. Finally, his positive attitude pays back as he comes to Cheese Station N. To Haw’s surprise, Scurry and Sniff are already in Cheese Station N. Haw observes Sniff and Scurry have grown fat making him conclude they have been around this cheese station for quite sometime. Despite the time he wasted along the journey, Haw is thankful he has learnt vital lessons.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Who Moved My Cheese specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More To be on the safe side, he applies his new lessons daily. First, he investigates Cheese station N every morning to notice any changes in supply. In addition, he explores the whole maze to see if there are other sources of cheese supply incase supply at Cheese Station N runs out. As the story closes, Haw hears a sound and only hopes Hem has finally broken loose from his negative mentality to find Cheese Station N. Lessons Learnt A number of lessons come out clearly in this story. The important thing to do when change beckons is to acknowledge it and take positive action that line up the change to work for one’s benefit. Denying change will lead to extinction or mediocrity; an unproductive life characterized with commonness, void of adventures and thrills. Those who take after Sniff and Scurry in today’s world reap big from change; those who take after Haw benefit although after a long struggle while those who take after Hem remain surrounded by fear of the unknown. The key rule in the maze that is life is to acknowledge and take action towards utilizing change that comes one’s way. However, actions without a proper implementation strategy might lead to wasting a lot of time in the maze for no reason. Sniff and Scurry, â€Å"had noticed the supply of cheese had been getting smaller every day, they were prepared for the inevitable and knew instinctively what to do† (Spencer 8). The preparedness that Scurry and Sniff had, symbolizes the strategy that people should have in life to counter change. The two mice would investigate the cheese everyday to note any changes in supply. Likewise, people should notice any little changes and strategize on how to counter the same. In addition, in the midst of change, one needs to maintain a positive attitude. For Haw, he realizes, â€Å"Imagining myself enjoying the cheese even before I find it lead me to it† (Spencer 17). One has to set goals and then align his/her thoughts towards the positive realization of those goals. As the old saying asserts, ‘as a man thinks so he is’, thinking of having achieved the set goals will lead to their realization. Positive adaptation of change requires one to abandon fear and self-satisfaction. Just like Haw, it might seem hard to leave what on e is used to; nevertheless, experience dictates that, without leaving the seashore one will never discover new oceans. Ignoring the facts does not change them; therefore, it is good for people to accept change because change is unavoidable. Conclusion The old adage asserts that, ‘change is the only constant thing’; consequently, adapting and enjoying change repeatedly is the best thing to do. Spencer wrote Who Moved My Cheese to illustrate the effects of denying change or accepting it. Acknowledging, strategizing for, acting on, and enjoying change, underlines Spencer’s work. The ‘Hems’ of today should learn from and emulate the ‘Sniffs’ and ‘Scurrys’ to avoid extinction or mediocrity.Advertising Looking for essay on american literature? Let's see if we can help you! Contrast of Things Fall Apart and Cry, the Beloved Country essays

Compare/Contrast of Things Fall Apart and Cry, the Beloved Country essays Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe and Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton are novels that revolve around the theme of social injustice but beneath that theme, we discover chaos on a deeper level. Chaos erupts on a personal level in both novels because characters refuse to accept reality. In Cry the Beloved Country, Paton points one area of his focus on separation. His story of familial separation becomes more significant against the tapestry of a country that is ravaged from within. Likewise, Achebe places his story of separation in a society that is torn between change and tradition. The backdrop of devastation reinforces the significance of communication in each context. Stephen, James, and Okonkwo undergo transformations that force them to change their perception of life and they can only come to this point through awakening to certain truths regarding life. In Cry the Beloved Country, Stephen learns a valuable lesson through the relationship with his son. He and Stephen represent a type of break that exists in the family. Only after pain and suffering does Stephen see his son for whom he really is. It takes murder, however, for this to occur. Stephen notes that his son is a stranger . . . I cannot touch him, I cannot reach him. I see no shame in him, no pity for those he has hurt. Tears come out of his eyes, but it seems that he weeps only for himself, not for his wickedness, but for his danger (Paton 109). Here we see how relationships can be torn apart because of ones actions. While we would like to believe that actions speak louder than words and blood is thicker than water, it is often difficult to find that truth in moments of desperation. Likewise, James must come to certain revelations through pain. He is like Stephen in that it takes a painful incident for his eyes to be opened to the truth. James looks at his son in a different light after he is dead and it is this light that al ...

Homework - Essay Example The western wing on the other hand contains the stairwell and smoke tower. The base of the building has intertwined truss system that helps in enhancing the stability of the entire structure in case of any earthquake. The building also has an X-bracing on the top, which assists in resisting torsion movement about the vertical axis of the building (Irvine). The construction process of the Transamerica Pyramid involved the use of various materials deemed as of great quality. Before lying of the first material, the point where the building stands was excavated to a depth of 52 feet. The bottom of the building has complicated system of steel rod reinforcements exceeding 300 miles thickness. About 16000 cubic yards of solid concrete covers the system of the reinforced steel rods. The entire base concrete of the Transamerica Pyramid is in such a way that the entire building moves in case of earthquake. The movement helps in distributing the shockwaves thus reducing damages (EMPROIS). The external parts of the Transamerica Pyramid are fixed with aggregates of quartz that form panels. There are also some rods designed to reinforce the panels at four points on every floor. There is also systematic spacing of the panels that helps in ensuring lateral movement of the building in case of earthquake or tremor. The panels comprises of aluminum louvered structures. The louvered aluminum panels projects to the top to form a 64 meters high spire (EMPROIS). The 48th floor of the building has conference room that provides 360-degree aerial view of the city. The entire external part of the building is white in color. I am always attracted to Transamerica Pyramid because of numerous features the building exhibits. First, I have found it fantastic to explore how the fifth floor of the building happen to be the largest floor and not the first or the second. Logically thinking and considering the shape of the building, the largest floor ought to

Communication Privacy Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Communication Privacy Management - Essay Example A friend of a friend of mine, Lisa, told my friend Anne and me that she discovered that her mother, Margie, was having an affair with a school employee, John (unmarried). The names here are all made up for privacy reasons. The news made me significantly uncomfortable because the woman was, in effect, committing bigamy, and I did not want to be a part of it. CPMT helps me understand this life experience and how it should have been resolved. Petronio offers five principles of CPMT, the first is that people think they own and have a right to control their private information. Private information refers to information that a person owns and that he/she feels must be controlled. Disclosure of private information pertains to the expression of private information to third parties. In my experience, Lisa discloses private information that she does not solely own, thereby breaching the privacy of her mother and John. I honestly did not think that these people would like their illicit affair t o be so openly shared in public, even if it was to Lisa’s friends only. Lisa practiced the first principle of privacy, which is that she thought that she owned the private information about her mother’s affair and she could control who should have access to it. The second principle of CPMT is that people control their private information through setting and using personal privacy rules. Personal privacy rules are not always openly discussed and fully agreed upon, however. Lisa said that when she saw her mother being too intimate with John, she confronted her at home. Margie broke down and disclosed private information about her affair, but she made her daughter promise to not tell anyone, especially her father. Lisa was so mad, but Margie said that she was planning to break up with John anyway, so it was better to keep everything quiet. Still, Lisa evidently did not know how to keep things quiet, and she broke her mother’s personal privacy rules. The five factor s of privacy rules can help explain Lisa’s disclosure behavior. First, culture may have something to do with her openness to Anne. They are both Hispanic Americans, which indicate a collectivist culture. Lisa needs emotional and social support that she thinks Anne can provide. Second, Lisa is a woman who wants another woman to listen to her and be her confidant. Gender can make some women be more open to other women with their private information. Third, Lisa has the motivation for disclosure. Her motivations are to get social support and to share her burden with others. Fourth, the context of the situation must truly be affecting Lisa. She must truthfully love her father and mother to try and keep the private information, but she must feel so hurt that she could not wait anymore to disclose the private information to someone close to her. She told Anne: â€Å"Anne, you’re my best friend in the world, and I feel so messed up. I can’t believe my ‘idealâ₠¬ mom would do this to my ‘ideal’ dad. Everything is a lie in my life.† She broke down and cried afterwards. Something so hurtful may compel someone to disclose such private information to others. Fifth, Lisa must have thought that the benefits outweigh the risk, when she made a risk/benefit ratio. The benefits of disclosure of private information are high: 1) reducing stress, 2) sharing emotional burden, and 3) getting social support. The risks are lower

Organizational Development Issue Walmarts Culture Research Paper

Organizational Development Issue Walmarts Culture - Research Paper Example   Walmart has had issues with its culture ever since the business started to make extremely high profits. The culture of the company is customer-focused and ensures that all customers are well taken care of. Such a culture faces the risk of neglecting its employees and failing to note the efforts they put in to ensure that the business continues to be successful and makes huge profits (Cheung-Judge & Holbeche, 2015). MethodologyThe identification of the issue of culture in Walmart was done by the use of surveys conducted in the various stores in a busy locality in the United States of America. Surveys were sent out via emails to various known shoppers and store attendants of Walmart to get their views and observations on the working environment and time of Walmart employees. A one-week observation was also done on one store to identify the opening and closing times, and the hours that a particular employee took working in the store per day.Discussion of the Collected DataFrom the o ne week observation, it was noted that the sample employee usually entered the store at 8 am and left for the night at 8 pm, with only a one-hour break at midday. This observation compliments the results of the surveys that employees work for up to 15 hours a day, with only a one-hour lunch break that is usually not enough for them to rest. They are required to get an overtime pay for the extra hours worked since the company only requires an attendant to put in 40 hours of work per week.

The main aim and focus in psychodynamic psychotherapy

The main aim and focus in psychodynamic psychotherapy The main focus of psychodynamic psychotherapy is to help individuals make sense of current problems and view how their past has/might/will/ have affected the current situation that would have brought them to counseling. Psychodynamic views the person as a whole thus mind, body, soul in order to recognize the relationships between these dimensions which make up the person. These internal relationships are dynamic, always changing as they form an individual. Psychodynamic psychotherapy helps review experiences and feelings that can only be understood in relation to a clients past. This is inturn helps reflects possibilities which might have led to the current problem or situations and hence counselor and client will explore the unconscious into the conscious mind. In psychodynamic psychotherapy there is the topographic viewpoint, which refers to the layering of mental processes into conscious, preconscious and unconscious. Freuds topographical model represents his configuration of the mind. According to Freud, there are three levels of consciousness, conscious this is the part of the mind that holds what one is aware of, people can visualize about their conscious experience and can think about it in a logical fashion. While the preconscious level is the ordinary memory meaning to say things stored here are in the conscious, they can be readily brought into conscious. Freud felt that this part of the mind was not directly accessible to aw areness. In part, he saw it as a damping place for feelings and ideas  that are tied to depression anxiety, conflict and pain and if not dealt with will lead to cases of suicidal thoughts. These feelings and thoughts if not dealt with and according to Freud, they are the exerting influence on our actions and our conscious awareness (Messer 1995). Psychodynamic psychotherapy goes in depth of every detail presented in the therapy whether its past or present situation as the main aim is to view how the past might have affected the present. Psychoanalytic concepts explain human growth and development, and the nature of psychological problems. Psychodynamic counseling uses the therapeutic relationship to gain insight into unconscious relationship patterns that evolved since early stage of life, memories and other evidence of early relationships are used to make sense of current problems. The process of change occurs as clients become more aware of the effects of the unconscious, including defense mechanisms that influence negative behavior, and hence more able to control their actions and responses in the future. Existential approach sees humans as being able to change and transform a negative lifestyle to a positive, living and meeting the conditions of worth meaning clients live a life that Rogers explained to be conditions of worth that are threatening to the self ( Barret-Lennard,1998, p.101) .Meaning to say the individual can no longer live as unified whole life as this is further explained to mean one might be deserting themselves from the way of a positive lifestyle they once lived. The existential approach is all about exploring meaning and value and learning to live authentically meaning living in accordance with ones priorities and values. The existential approach hold that the human being struggle is with the givens of existence that is death, isolation, freedom and meaninglessness.People often ignore these existential givens, until life events increase the sensibilities (Corey, 2005, p.174) According to Yalom, these four existential realities are the root of most psychological problems . While other existentialists may be more optimistic about the ability of people to find answers to these questions, it is generally agreed that these four issues are central to the human experience. That is why Existential counseling seek to empower the client through self actualisation working with the here, now and the futurenot including the past (Blackham, 1975, p.114). The approach is mainly person centered as it views the client as their own best authority on their own experience, and it views the client as being fully capable of fulfilling their own potential for growth. It recognizes, however, that achieving potential requires favourable conditions and that under adverse conditions, individuals may well not grow and develop in the ways that they otherwise could. People commonly become aware of their desire for counselling when there is some internal or external disturbance in the homeostasis of their lives, the hormonal imbalances of adolescence often coincides with emotional storms which bring them to a counsellor (Clarkson, 1999,p 41 ) People seek counseling for a variety of reasons that include but are not limited to the following sadness, anxiety, relationship problems ,loss of work, persistent feelings of isolation and loneliness, or even aiming or needing motivatition to be more successful in life, work or relationships. (Prochaska Norcross, 2003) Wexler, 1974 viewed therapy as a process of expanding consciousness and bringing about more effective information that would occur in the context of genuine empathic relationship characterized by positive regard.   Existential therapy seeks to help clients live with freedom and to remove the limitations that are self-imposed.   By challenging clients about rigid beliefs and thought patterns, therapists work to provide an environment where individuals are safe to consider their belief systems and adopt new views.   Therapists focus on current life situations the client is dealing with rather than resolving past issues.   Through this focus on the here and now, individuals address their beliefs and look at enjoying life more fully and with more appreciation . Sessions of psychodynamic psychotherapy have greater frequency to allow for more in-depth treatment. The duration of individual sessions varies, It is not usually possible at the start of treatment to estimate the number of sessions that will be necessary in order to achieve the persons goals. It is possible, however, for the person to make arrangements for a specific number of sessions. Psychodynamic psychotherapy and existensial humanistic counseling operates the same way in the counseling room. They all begins with a period of evaluation during which the client discusses with the therapist the reasons for seeking treatment. This process gives the therapist the opportunity to learn about the person, to develop an understanding of his or her troubles, and to formulate ideas about how treatment should proceed. This phase of interviewing and learning may take place in one session or over a series of sessions; or it may be done in a less structured manner, depending on the therapists style. At some point within the first few sessions, the therapist and the individual will come to a mutual understanding of the goals for treatment. The two methods of counseling only defer with what has to be discussed in the treatment room meaning to say psychodynamic goes deeper into exploring a clients past of which existential only deals with current problems and focus on way forward. By allowing the client to communicate ,the counselor encourage self exploration on the clients part and also allowing the client to hear themselves speak and becoming familiar with their own thoughts and feelings that the client may have not realized had the opportunity to see (Meier Davis 2005 ). When the thoughts and feelings are taken back inside the projecting person from the other person, they may be better able to handle them as they also bring back something of the other person and the way they appeared ( Meir Davis 2005) bringing to attention that treatment will be focusing primarily on the insight of past present and future helping to make the unconscious conflict become conscious. session, the therapist is trying to judge, how much you are in touch with your own feelings, what feelings you are not aware of, how close are you to knowing the unconscious feelings, how painful these feelings are to you, and how well you can tolerate the pain that becoming aware of these feelings will bring. In the book Systems of psychotherapy, Rogers emphasizes the importance of communication as a genuine sense of empathy so that clients will experience a deeper understanding and acceptance of what they will be going through (Prochaska Norcross, 2003, p.89). As according to Prochaska some experiences are distorted or denied, there is incongruence between what is being experienced and what is symbolised as part of a persons self concept. According to Prochaska, an individual have an experimental world, in order to understand a clients action a counsellor who use both existential humanistic and psychodynamic counselling therapy place himself in the internal framework of a client (Prochaska Norcross, 2003, p.141). Wexler, 1974 viewed therapy as a process of expanding consciousness and bringing about more effective information that would occur in the context of genuine empathic relationship characterized by positive regard. A client whose counsellor might not want to use psychodynamic therapy (that is talk about past experiences in depth) may feel that the counsellor does not want to touch on certain issues of his/ her life . The therapeutic relationship in contemporary psychodynamic counselling is based on acceptance, empathy and understanding, with an emphasis on developing a good working alliance that fosters trusts. The counselor takes account of the real world of the client, including the impact of trauma, cultural difference, sexual orientation, disability and social context. The insight and understanding about human functions gained from psychoanalytic theory, can enhance the life of the counselor as well as the client, and can be put to a variety of good uses. The most defining strength of psychodynamic theory is the appreciation of the unconscious, Freud attempted to provide a means of understanding the unconscious world as it tends to review and work closely with the present situations/ probles being explained by client (conscious) . At the same time some clients might not feel comfortable to discuss their past or explore themselves and their feelings might work well with existensial counselors . existential humanistic counseling core condition of unconditional positive regard means the client is free to explore all thoughts and feelings, positive or negative, without danger of rejection or condemnation which leads to empathic understanding of clients thoughts, feelings, from the clients own perspective. Unlike in psychodynamic counseling where the counselor takes the journey to the clients past and try to match their current problems with their past. Existential therapy in a way makes the client grow in their own way unlike psychodynamic that tries to match personalities traits of clients generation to what they will be going through in the present time. However in psychodynamic therapy by getting deeper with clients past the counselor will know more information, behaviour, character and self defenses of a client. In doing so it helps strengthen their relationship as the client feels more comfortable to explore more issues in their past life and this will in turn might stren gthen the relationship of them .Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a form of depth therapy because its aim is to reveal or try to make sense of the unconscious to become conscious. The goals of psychodynamic psychotherapy vary therapy seeks to relieve a client through the development of insight, or the slowly developing awareness of feelings and thoughts that were once outside of the persons awareness through guidance from a therapist, the adult becomes aware of present ways of coping that are ineffective and how they served a purpose in childhood that is no longer relevant. The person learns that he or she now has a range of new options for solving problems, and for living in general that are now based on his or her maturity and independence.

Epic of Beowulf Essay - Honor and Dishonor :: Epic Beowulf essays

Beowulf:   Balance of Values  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Symbolizing honor and strength, control of the "wine-hall" passes into the hands of the victor, under the traditional laws of the Danes and Geats. As Beowulf triumphs over the fiend, Grendel, he casts off the shame and dishonor which would have befallen him, and full control of the wine-hall, as well as territorial supremacy, are clearly his. Only later in the poem does Beowulf begin to lose the primacy that had been exclusively his domain. Even in death, however, Beowulf is immortalized by the members of his tribe, and by the writer, as he passed into glorious history His funeral pyre, and monument on the coast, bore witness to his greatness. It seems that the avoidance of shame and dishonor in one's youth establishes a life-long pattern in Geat Society, whether minor failures are registered later in life or not. Once a great warrior, Beowulf remains one. His people thrive on his noble character and triumphs; his opponents tremble at his name, in awe and respect. Further, inter-tribal generosity and openness, for example, during scenes of thankfuness for the victory over Grendel, are also qualities which shine forth throughout this saga, further advancing the premise that this Geat warrior-king and his people embody all of the characteristics thought noble and high-minded in the eyes of his tribesmen. The obvious premium placed on the "honor of victory", and the "shame of defeat" is demonstrated again and again in violent confrontations which punctuate this dramatic tale. The narrator seems to persist in focusing on the same acts of valor, varying the descriptions only slightly, as one passage melts into the next. On many occasions, women surround the victor; wine, treasure or tribute are exchanged and valiant acts are praised in song and dance. Nonetheless, destruction of one's reputation is possible, as well, as the poet points out in the tragic episode dealing with Haetheyn who inadvertently killed his own kinsman.

Personality Paper

Personality Paper Temperament Description Who would have thought that such a little booklet could contain such personal and accurate information about each individual’s personality simply by filling in bubbles to answer simple multiple-choice questions? Upon first glance, I thought that â€Å"The Keirsey Temperament Sorter† would never be able to correctly depict my personality. However, I still managed to fill out the questionnaire in a careful and truthful manner despite my convictions. After taking the personality questionnaire, my results showed my personality type falling under the category â€Å"Idealist† as an ESFP.To my surprise, I found this to be quite similar to how I would describe my own personality type. By further research, I determined that ESFP actually stands for extraversion, sensing, feeling and perceiving. The description described an ESFP as a friendly person who helps others enjoy life. Also, it stated that they tend to make warm and enthus iastic friends and are more likely to pay attention to details and value a realistic approach to solving problems. Taking into my major in nursing at MSU, I decided to research if this would fit my ESFP personality type. After reading the ESFP description more thoroughly it gave several career suggestions such as nursing, child care, restaurant work, sales and counseling. Also, it mentioned that ESFP’s look for a job that is fun and prefer to work with others in groups. By expanding deeper into this subject, I found that ESFP individuals live in the world of people and possibilities. They love being around people and experiencing new things. They live in the present, and relish excitement and drama in their lives. I found this extremely interesting PERSONALITY PAPER because I am always excited to go into new settings and meet new people. When I am with my friends I am always the first one to jump at the thought of meeting new people or exploring new places. Another characterist ic associated with ESFP individuals is that they have very strong inter-personal skills, and may find themselves in the role of the peacemaker frequently. Coincidently, I found myself taking on the peacemaker roll many times throughout this year. Whether it is solving roommate disputes, family problems, or co-worker relationship issues, I am usually placed in the middle and forced to help individuals find common ground. Lastly, another haracteristic associated with ESFP’s is when under a great deal of stress, they many times are overwhelmed with negative thoughts and possibilities. Just recently I found that whenever anyone is angry with me, I solely think about the endless possibilities as to why they are angry. For instance, when my roommate was angry with me, I had an extremely difficult time focusing on anything else but the issue at hand. Consequently, I did horrible on the exam and the roommate dilemma was still not solved. Communication According to ESFP personalities, they do not like confrontation so they avoid talking about their feelings with others. This makes it difficult to communicate effectively with those around you and build trustful relationships. Therefore, one thing I need to work on is simply communicating and letting others around me know how and what I am feeling presently rather than holding my feelings inside. I found that doing so (holding emotions inside), is not healthy for your body and creates unneeded stress. Communication also goes beyond simply talking. Communication also requires everyone to take turns listening and discussing problems when PERSONALITY PAPER they are presented. Many times, I find myself struggling to have someone there to listen to what I have to say. Similar to my ESFP description, I am usually the listener in most situations and tend to be rather open-minded about issues. Therefore, many times I struggle to find an individual that will listen to me and give me good advice. So, another communication iss ue I could work on is finding a special individual that I can trust and share my feelings with (possibly another ESFP). Temperament Characteristics Along with any personality there are both positives and negatives affiliated with both.Several characteristics I found to be positive about ESFP is that they are extremely flexible, diverse, and â€Å"go with the flow† exceptionally well. Usually, when plans are changed I tend to shrug it off and go onto the next task. Unlike most individuals, I do not dwell on what could have been missed of an opportunity, but instead think of the many opportunities that a wait. Another positive personality characteristic associated with ESFP is that they are generous and warm hearted. I absolutely love helping people in need and would do anything for anyone.I will drop whatever I am doing to come and help a friend or anyone in need no matter what. My friends know they can always rely on me for anything whenever they have a problem (although some times they take advantage of this trait). Along with the good characteristics, we know that there must be some bad characteristics associated with ESFP. One weakness related to ESFP is that they are frivolous and risky with money. I found this to be extremely true because I am always at the mall shopping for clothes or going to delicious restaurants with friends. Therefore, not soon after I receive my paycheck from PERSONALITY PAPER Dairy Queen, it is almost completely gone. I often have to count on others around me to make sure I do not spend my money frivolously. Lastly, ESFP individuals tend to dislike criticism and take things extremely personally. When I first read this I was in awe. I thought it was crazy how accurate this personality test is because this describes me perfectly. Whenever anyone gives me criticism (whether constructive or not) I am always deeply offended.I take it so personally and sometimes even become saddened because I always like to think I am doing everythi ng perfectly. It is horrible that I think so negatively about myself sometimes because of my perfectionist attitudes. Many of these weaknesses listed are things that I could continue to work on individually on a day to day basis. Disposition Background When filling out the disposition paper handed to us in class, I was not aware of the quantity of dispositions we experience on a daily basis. No matter where we are or what our profession, we are constantly bombarded with dispositions of many kinds. It was interesting to become aware of the many dispositions we encounter on a daily basis and being able to better recognize the better choices in each decision we make. For instance, while working at Dairy Queen I experienced many dispositions in which I later had to reflex upon while filling out the dispositions paper. It was interesting to see how this assignment changed the way I would have made a decision. If not for the assignment I would not have thought, â€Å"How will this make th e other person feel and will this provide the better outcome? † Overall, being aware of these dispositions made me feel good about where I stand on issues nd made me think about the consequences of my actions. PERSONALITY PAPER All in all this personality and dispositions assignment really helped me determine who I am as a person. Throughout reading many detailed personality descriptions I was able to ask myself if that trait was a common behavior of mine or if that described my personality accurately. In addition, this assignment also helped me figure out what areas of my personality I need to work on such as communication. All in all, this was a great learning experience and helped me get a greater understanding of what it is I perceive myself to be.

“Outsourcing of Hospital Services” Essay Example

â€Å"Outsourcing of Hospital Services† Essay Example â€Å"Outsourcing of Hospital Services† Paper â€Å"Outsourcing of Hospital Services† Paper 1. In some instances the outsourced service occurs in a different location, while in others it takes place inside the organization doing the outsourcing, ad the food service did in this case. What advantages were there in having the outsourced work performed within the hospital? Suppose a different hospital outsourced its food service but decided not to have the work performed in- house. What might its rationale be? The advantages in having the outsourced work performed within the hospital were mostly related with the satisfaction of the workers, when the hospital outsourced its cafeteria food services; the employees felt a sense of ownership of their jobs and felt connected to the hospital because of the family atmosphere in the kitchen and cafeteria. When a different hospital outsourced its food service but decided not to have the work performed in-house then they might have to face a problem of employee turnover because the employees might lose the feeling of being connected to the work. Their interest in job will reduce which in future might lead to the problem of employee turnover which won’t be beneficial for the hospital 2. In the housekeeping situation, why not just forget about outsourcing, especially since the hospital ended up rehiring its employees anyways? When the hospital tried the same thing with housekeeping, it didn’t work because employee turnover became a problem. After the investigation, they found out the reason for employee turnover which is, because of the housekeeping employees were more isolated in their work, they lost their feeling of being connected to the hospital they had. So, for the benefit of the hospital they ended up rehiring its employees using outsources company to manage housekeeping. These days financial pressures are not the only reason for the outsourcing, hospital executives are finding more reasons to consider outsourcing. The desire to focus on core competencies and the need to fill jobs are also the main reasons for the outsourcing. 3. For laundry service, what might have been the rationale for asking another hospital to join it? I think the rationale for asking another Rival hospital to join in outsource laundry service, might be because teaming up will be profitable for the  hospital because sharing outsource will help hospital to be safe from the competition and could offer a potential vendor more economy of scale. To provide the quality of healthcare service hospital need the specific expert professional and outsources will help to provide the expert professional. Insufficiency in work force will require the outsourcing for hospitals.

How to Let Your College Crush Know You Like Them

How to Let Your College Crush Know You Like Them Had your eye on that crush for a little while, and ready to at least see if that persons feelings for you are the same? You may be terrified, but you also may be at the point where youd just rather take the step than keep things in the unknown. If youre not sure where to start, consider these ways to let your college crush know you like them. Give Some Kind of Gift It can be flowers, a small care package (who doesnt like care packages in college?), or even something that you know your crush has a soft spot for. But any small gift or gesture is sure to let someone know that you hold your relationship whatever it is closer to your heart than most others. Utilize Some Kind of Campus Fundraiser If its around Valentines Day, Halloween, or another major holiday, take advantage of a campus fundraising program. You can send a Valentines Day gift, flowers, Halloween treats, or any other small gift to your crush in his or her classroom through fundraisers on campus that offer the opportunity. It can be a great way to show someone you like them while also helping support your campus community. Just Ask It sounds and is terrifying. But if your crush is really all you hope he or she is, sitting down and talking about your feelings may be the best thing you ever do. You just may surprise yourself with how the conversation works out! Ask Your Crush to Dinner off Campus or at Your Apartment Nothing says youre-just-another-college-friend-to-me than dinner in the campus dining hall(s) or cafe(s). Take your crush somewhere special to indicate that youre interested in being more than just college pals. Put Something in Writing It shouldnt be too long (that gets creepy), and it can be handwritten or by email. But, since some folks express themselves best through their writing, sending along a letter letting your crush know how you feel may be your best bet. It can also eliminate the awkwardness of a conversation and give your crush some time to process before responding.

Principles and techniques of new public management are still significant within the municipal government in Canada as they help in provision of Education, health, social services and finance. 2.1.
